Mark Andrews and David Hughes have recently been working with Aveda and Deborah Milner on a show to launch Ecoture™ – couture gowns that are both ethically and environmentally sound.
The show formed part of Alta Roma, Rome’s haute couture week and was set in the striking Tempio di Adriano. The simple set consisted of an internal courtyard dimly lit with dappled light mimicking a rainforest glade. The details in Deborah’s 11 dresses were picked out by slow moving GOBOs. Alongside explanatory graphic panels there was a large screen featuring a film of the dresses and a photographic record of Deborah’s visit to the Yawanawa people in Brazil’s rainforest. Each dress tells a different story – of global sourcing partnerships with indigenous communities, plant based ingredients, environmentally-friendly textiles, innovative packaging and natural dyes.
